Why Does Coloring Feel So Relaxing?
One minute you’re thinking about emails, laundry, bills, and what you’re making for dinner.
Ten minutes later, your biggest concern is whether that leaf needs Sage Green or Slightly Different Sage Green.
And honestly? That’s kind of wonderful. 😂
Coloring has a sneaky way of getting your brain to focus on something simple.
Instead of thinking about the 47 things you probably should be doing, you’re deciding whether the flowers should be yellow, whether that sky needs another layer of blue, and whether a raccoon can realistically wear a red sweater.
For the record, Milo says yes.
It Gives Your Brain a Break
Coloring gives you just enough to think about without asking too much.
Pick a color. Fill in a space. Pick another color.
There are no emails to answer, no notifications popping up, and nobody needs a password.
Even better, there really aren’t any rules.
Purple trees? Fine.
Blue chickens? Why not?
Spent 20 minutes shading one tiny flower only to decide you liked it better 15 minutes ago?
We’ve all been there.
You Don’t Have to Be an Artist
That’s one of the best things about coloring.
The drawing is already waiting for you. You just get to decide what happens next.
You don’t have to create a masterpiece. You don’t have to show anyone. You don’t even have to finish the page.
Sometimes it’s simply nice to sit down, pick up a pencil, and make something colorful for no reason other than you enjoy doing it.
Maybe that’s why coloring feels so relaxing.
For a little while, life gets smaller.
The emails can wait.
Dinner will figure itself out.
The laundry isn’t going anywhere.
And right now, you have a much more pressing matter to deal with:
Sage Green or Slightly Different Sage Green?
Milo votes for both. 🦝
